Yesterday was my last day at my job at IAVI, which I have been employed for 10+ years. It was time to go and move on to a new career, in UX design. My coworkers threw me a party with 2 cakes and 5 people made short but sweet speeches regarding little ole me. Maoli and Olivia brought cakes, Marina made me a scrapbook, and Kevin and Aaron surprised me with speeches that made me aware that my coworkers know me really well and care! I was so touched inside and could not stop smiling. The day was busy with tying up loose ends, exit interviews, and finally, a lot of hugs. I will miss these thoughtful people so much; I kind of have separating anxiety, since I have seen/ spent time with these caring people for the last 10+ years of my life. We ate food together, laughed, goofed off, collaborated, prepared presentations and helped each other in the lab. This experience has been a significant part of my life, and I will never forget it. I wanted to spend more time at work saying goodbye, taking photos, and commemorating everything, but I had to run home and prepare for my band's last show. We are taking a hiatus for 3 months, while I go back to school. It was at Don Pedro's and Irena, her friend Rayna, Greg and Kay showed up. I was happy that some people came out, since it was on a Monday night, 20F outside and far into the industrial lands of Bushwick. The show went ok, and I was happy that I didn't mess up too much. Michael and Kate gave me a ride home and of course it's always a party in the car with the both of them. It was a really great day/ evening, but it went too fast. One can only hold on to moments for so long, before it slips away and becomes memories.
