My sister and I went for a quick weekend getaway to Philadelphia. We visited the Natural Science Museum, the Masonic Temple (which was beautiful!), the Reading Street Market, and South Street. On Saturday night we went to the Trocadero to see Black Veil Brides. A goth/glam pop band I never heard of, but I wanted to show her the theater and its balcony. I've been to Philly before, and I still enjoyed it. Above, are some photos from the natural science museum.

While I was looking for Victorian Hair Jewelry, I found this article! It is so sad, yet interesting! I can't believe someone would make taxidermy art/recreations out of endangered animals. He totally knew what he was doing but did it anyway. I have to admit, some of his art is pretty amazing, but also also disturbing, since I know that the skins were obtained illegally. Here are pictures of some of the animals that he used. I had to look up these endangered, gorgeous animals, because I never heard of them: The Kingfisher, Slow Loris, Babirusa, and the Pangolin.
Happy New Year, peeps! My new year was quiet, spending time with my family and rewatching the Hobbit!
This month I am going to a class that focuses on Hair Jewelry from the Victorian Age. I am not sure what Victorian Hair Jewelry has to do with photography, music or science, but I am interested in it. My hair grows very fast. Every year, I cut it to my shoulders, and it grows down to my waist. And every time I cut it, I braid it and save my hair. I don't know why, but I guess it is because it's an extension of me that I don't want to throw away. I have about four 7" length braids in a shadowbox that I have saved, that are just sitting around. Victorian Hair Jewelry was jewelry (brooches, rings, necklaces) that either was made of human hair or incorporates it into the jewelry. It was usually hair from a deceased loved one stored in a brooch, ring or necklace to remember them. Some artists even made landscapes out of hair and some jewelry is made out entirely of human hair. See photos below. Since I have a lot of hair, I am going to try to make some jewelry with it. |
