Last week I quit my band. It was time to go, even though I was with them for only 9 months. It was a good run, but I was getting bored. I needed more change up in the song structure, more parts to keep me interested, which was not in our music, so I left. It was nothing personal, but I wish The Dazzling Dooms all the best.
So I put up an ad on Craigslist of course, and had 2 auditions right away! One was with an all girl band, which I wanted, but lacked experience and none of them were in a band before. This was their very first time playing! They were sweet, young, and had high hopes, but I think they needed a drummer along the same lines of experience that they shared. The other audition was with a more experienced band, called The Black Black, which was with 2 guys. They've been playing for a long time and were much older than the girls, for sure. They sent me an email asking if I would jam with them, even though it wasn't an all girl band. I said "Sure, why not?" and they sent me 3 of their songs. I learned all 3, and was ready to jam. It was a little funny, at 5pm I "jammed" with all the girls, pretty much listening to their songs, and their little mistakes, encouraging them to keep going and not start over. I hardly played drums with them, just listened and did not sweat. Then at 6:30pm I headed over and jammed with the guys. Totally different situation, where I played all the songs with them, trying to keep up with the bpm, and sweating my ass off. They played the songs much faster in real life than the recordings. But I have to admit, I had new confidence learning their songs and jamming after. They recorded the new jam and said hopefully it would be their new song. They were relatively nice but I think they wanted a male drummer they could hang out with. So the search continues.
