Last night I went to the Morbid Anatomy's 2 face kitten and exploded human skeleton party: The collector's cabinet preview party. I didn't stay long since I wasn't feeling well, but I did get a chance to see the exhibit upstairs. So I guess my timeline goes like this in regards to getting into taxidermy. It all started when I took a stop motion class with Voltaire/ Jeremy at SVA. That lead to this website and reading about stop motion. Then I was looking for a class involving making animal puppets and for some reason, I read about stuffing animals somewhere. That lead me reading about taxidermy and then I took a class at Morbid Anatomy back in 2013. My first book was Still Life by Melissa Milgrom, then Kingdom Under Glass by Jay Kirk, then Breathless Zoo by Rachel Poliquin and it keeps going. But I will always remember when I first read about Walter Potter and his anthropomorphic kittens! He had a kitten wedding and a kitten tea party! They are so cute. He also had a real 2 faced kitten! Finally, two years later it came full circle and I got to see the 2 face kitten at Morbid Anatomy! This kitten is so small, it can fit in the palm of your hand. Morbid Anatomy also showed this beautiful chipmunk taxidermy diorama. This was from a funeral home in Wisconsin commissioned by Sam Sanfilippo, now owned by Mike Zohn of Oddities. The taxidermy was prepared by Vito Marchino. Check out the chipmunks holding hands and cotton candy!

I took a jackalope skeleton class at Morbid Anatomy. Wider was my teacher and he is pretty great. It's a rabbit skeleton and we made the antlers from a paper clay and wire armature. Then we drilled a hole in the skull and put beeswax around it. I had so much fun! I also articulated her to be in attack mode! Rawr!
I've been really into weaving and wall decorations. It all started when my friends Kate and Michael got me a gift certificate to Brooklyn Brainery for my birthday. I took the weaving and alternative drawing class. Both classes were fun and I learned a lot. I also learned other weaving techniques from pinterest and youtube. Here are a couple of pieces I made. This is one of my first designs I made up! It went to Elisa. The yarn is cheap and from the dollar store, but it worked fine. Triangles and fringe, along with pops of color are aspects that make up this piece! I got this design from pinterest, but I changed it up a bit. This yarn is from my sister! This yarn is also from my sister, which is soft and pretty. Can you see the triangles? It's kinda messy, but I love it. Woo Hoo! This is my piece from my class. It went to Max. I'm glad I took a picture! Looking back at the year 2014, gives me a smile. Listed below are some of the memorable events I did. 100 Happy Days Project (March 2014). Started this project using Instagram. I was on Instagram a while back, then it began to became too commercial, and celebrity based, so I took a break. This was my way back to photography, but using a cell phone and an app, compared to my digital camera, strobes and wireless remote. Oh well, I know, this is a downgrade, but I want to know what it's like to just take a photo with your phone, instead of setting up your equipment, posing, using photoshop, getting props ready etc. It was too easy. Of course there are a lot of photo apps to make your photos look cooler. I blogged about the photos here. Taxidermy Contest : See my blog here. Our long waited April honeymoon photos in Panama. Our 1 year wedding anniversary at Storm King here. We joined the North Brooklyn Boat Club in July, and here is my favorite photo by Dewey Thompson. That's me all the way to the left in an orange kayak, with the husband in the back, and of course the Manhattan skyline in the background. I also want to try Paddle boarding, but not in the East River. Florida in August! You can see some photos here. I will never forget sunset swimming and this dolphin that followed me to shore. California in September! We went to Santa Monica, Monterey Aquarium, Carmel by the Sea and Point Lobos Park. We also stayed on a boat for 2 nights through AirBNB! I have to say, Carmel and Point Lobos Park are the most beautiful places I've visited so far in my life. I was/am in lurve! Lastly, turning 40 in December! I wanted to go big, (well Mary-ish big) so I had a 3 day celebration weekend! First we played ping pong on Friday night at a bar, ate dumplings on Saturday night, then watched Gremlins and had brunch at Nitehawk on Sunday. It was a lot of fun!
