Today I went to the MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) to see the Michelangelo exhibit. For some reason, I went to the west 86th street station, instead of the east 86th street station. I guess I am so used to going to the American Museum of Natural History on the west side. So I decided to walk across the park and take a walk, plus the nice weather helped. Luckily I used Google map to cross Central Park, because I haven't been there in a while, and I had no idea which street goes cross town through the park. I walked through this bridge, where a lonely saxophone player stood still. I arrived on time to meet Sam, despite the detour and saw this long line! When she arrived, we went straight there to see the drawings from Michelangelo. We also walked around the museum to see more art. I have always been a fan of mythical beasts such as sphinx, pegasus, dragons, unicorns, and griffins ever since the movies, Never Ending Story, Ray Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans, The Last Unicorn, and A Flight of Dragons. I guess watching all these movies lead me to my love of science fiction as well. Why is Japanese art so good? Below are clay pottery, and bamboo pieces. They are stunning and lovely. I love the twists, turns, points and shapes made by these artists. This was Sam's first time in Central Park. We visited the Obelisk, the Great Lawn, the Lake and Belvedere's Castle. Next time, I want to show her the Alice in Wonderland statue, Minton Tile Ceiling at Bethesda Terrace, the famous Bethesda Fountain, and Literary Walk. Plus I have never been to the Conservatory Gardens, the Lock, and the Reservoir since they are all at the North End of the park, so we need to visit them too.

Yesterday my buddy Sam and I went to the David Zwiner Gallery for Yayoi Kusama's Festival of Life exhibit. We got there at 9 am, and was inside by 10:45. Standing in line went by quick since Sam and I were laughing and chatting the whole time. Next time I have to bring my hot hand warmer pouches, it was a tad chilly! You only had 1 MINUTE to look at this exhibit! I waited in line for almost 2 hours, and I got to hear the staff member say "You only have 30 more seconds, now 5 seconds, now 2 seconds" while viewing the exhibit! It was annoying and him talking ruined my experience. But Sam and I still had fun and it was pretty beautiful to see the mirrors, silver orbs, and our images infinitely displaying before our eyes. You only get 30 SECONDS to see this exhibit due to long lines. It was a box full of blinking lights portraying an infinite universe. Another staff member said, "Please move along, for the next group!" I didn't like that either! The Last room called "With All My Love for the Tulips, I Pray Forever” was filled with red polka dots and had 3 flower sculptures. In this room we had about 3 minutes but was still ushered away before the next group arrived. I couldn't really experience anything except selfies in this room because of the time constraint. I wish we could explore more of her work without people telling us to leave. It was nice to be immersed in her world if only for a brief period of time. Her paintings (66 paintings total) in the next door gallery were full of color, patterns, eyes, and faces I could identify with for some reason. In this gallery we took our time (finally no one telling us to leave!) to inspect Kusama's paintings. I could finally get a sense of her work and world in this gallery, which was great to experience. Her paintings remind me of organisms, and creatures in a vivid world full of meaning and wonder. I also loved that all the canvases were the same size, displaying an organized, symmetric exhibit. We headed uptown to Times Square to visit the Line Friends store. I first heard about Line Friends browsing through sticker characters on my phone. The teddy bear is named Brown and he has several friends. Cony is the rabbit and Brown's wife! Sally is the female chick and is Brown's tag along buddy. You can check out their YouTube channel here.
Last Saturday was the Cthulhu Halloween Party at the NBBC, where I am co-event chair with my buddy, Nick. Unfortunately, Nick couldn't make it, so I had to help Michael and Kate run the show. Michael was in charge of water activities, Kate organized the performers and I gathered up volunteer for land duties. It was a crazy night, since it was my first time organizing volunteers by myself; but we all pulled together and made a team effort to get things done, especially in the beginning of the event. We were all running around trying to find things! A couple of volunteers also cancelled their shifts, so the performers and members of the club had to help with clean up duties. Above is what I wore to the party, to keep consistent with the nautical Cthulhu theme. I made a DIY sea shell headband and wore my first wig. Special thanks goes to Sam, Jenny and Patrick for stopping by to see me!
