Last night I went to the Morbid Anatomy's 2 face kitten and exploded human skeleton party: The collector's cabinet preview party. I didn't stay long since I wasn't feeling well, but I did get a chance to see the exhibit upstairs. So I guess my timeline goes like this in regards to getting into taxidermy. It all started when I took a stop motion class with Voltaire/ Jeremy at SVA. That lead to this website and reading about stop motion. Then I was looking for a class involving making animal puppets and for some reason, I read about stuffing animals somewhere. That lead me reading about taxidermy and then I took a class at Morbid Anatomy back in 2013. My first book was Still Life by Melissa Milgrom, then Kingdom Under Glass by Jay Kirk, then Breathless Zoo by Rachel Poliquin and it keeps going. But I will always remember when I first read about Walter Potter and his anthropomorphic kittens! He had a kitten wedding and a kitten tea party! They are so cute. He also had a real 2 faced kitten! Finally, two years later it came full circle and I got to see the 2 face kitten at Morbid Anatomy! This kitten is so small, it can fit in the palm of your hand. Morbid Anatomy also showed this beautiful chipmunk taxidermy diorama. This was from a funeral home in Wisconsin commissioned by Sam Sanfilippo, now owned by Mike Zohn of Oddities. The taxidermy was prepared by Vito Marchino. Check out the chipmunks holding hands and cotton candy!
